Maine aapka “namak” khaaya hai sarkar!

Having being invited for a weekend dinner event is always so much fun. And all the more when it’s at a five star property. All I had to do is to slip into my best attire.

Who cares for what the speakers spoke or the seemingly endless (ppp)power point presentations, my sensory organs were waiting for the main course. On the drop of the cutlery, I realised the table covers were up. How desperately I waiting for my moment of culinary pleasure.

The neatly adorned tables with exotic foodstuff and fancy names were already making my decision difficult. I had to grab a piece of all, still deciding on my starting point. Making my customary stroll, one particular dish attracted me the most, and I decided to dig in. To my dismay the taste was lot to be desired. Being in a star property I kept my silence. If it would have been any other restaurant, it would have been pandemonium by now. I gupled down my disappointment and took my second heave and lo, it was the same as before. First, second, third..none of the dishes stood the test or could I say “stood the taste”!. What was meant to be a perfect evening dinner was soon turning out to be a damp squib.

By now I was fuming within and my irritation levels rising. Just then I sensed a gentle tap on my shoulder. The gentleman who was sitting next to me and was behind me on the dining foyer, smiled and put a dash of salt on the food I took. I could instantly sense the change my friend brought in me. Suddenly the entire environment around me seemed so beautiful and pleasant.

I shared my dinner with him and during my cordial discussion he slid his visiting card gently. On careful scrutiny, it just had his name, address and contact details, nothing less – nothing more. I politely asked the reason of avoiding his designation, he replied with a question, “what do I say, who am I”? Financial advisor, IFA or Agent or Investment advisor? He didn’t care either of his designation for I realised by his talk, he knew only one work. “The most important work of serving his client”. And I guess that’s why he could sense the right balance for the dish to taste good, my guess is, his approach would be the same for his clients too. People like him are rare but not impossible to find. For today i can confess, I never understood the value of salt, but now I know having the right amount of it can only make ones life feel good.
