Blocking Bleeding Bills

18 03 2019

Question 1:

Have I ever visited a hospital?

The most obvious answer would be yes.

YES, to visit either someone close to our heart, a neighbour, friend or an acquaintance.

Question 2:

Have I visited a hospital just for sightseeing?

You would be THiiNKin, am I crazy?

It definitely isn’t a destination that anyone would want to visit. Yet, that’s what I ended up doing. Travelled to a famous hospital to help my friend with couple of preliminary tests & second opinions.

As I looked around, I found steel racks displaying hospital & Doctor details, television dolling out news, scattered newspapers and the multitasking receptionist. Amidst all this commotion, I saw anxious faces seeking answers to their problems.

Patients waiting for their relatives to clear payments. Few requesting reduction of their bills & many others arguing. Surprisingly, things never revolved around treatments, it was all about money, honey or should I say “lack of money”?

Medical costs have been sky rocketing since past many years. And advancement in science & treatments have invariably increased treatment bills.

While all of us have been busy creating wealth from fixed deposits to mutual funds and stocks to real estate, when it came to our health, we have always relied either on our employer provided insurance or the personal Rs 3 Lakh insurance which apparently, provided us peace of mind.

While year after year, we have been spending & splurging more, investing and earning more, we have always thought of health insurance as just another tax saving tool.

I wonder, is that really the case? Isn’t it a wealth preservation tool which not only insures towards health exigencies but also help not spend anxious moments at the hospital. I dare not THiiNK of sharing a seat, one amongst those faces. I do not and wish not!

However, I wonder what would it take for everyone to realise the importance of insuring adequately by going for a health insurance cover? Shouldn’t people block those bleeding bills from eroding their financial corpus? Preserving is as important as creating, isn’t it?

How I wish, most people to act, unfortunately most do not understand things until one goes through such experiences.

Hopefully, it’s not you!
